New Business
State of the Church
- Do we agree that the current state of the church, for whatever
reason, is not working? YES
- Under what circumstances should/could we continue?
- Our structure should reflect how we're actually functioning
and the gifts we have instead of what we were or wish/think we
should be;
- In order to make disciples, which we agree is the
church’s primary objective, we must first be
disciples. How can we become better disciples? What intentional
steps can we take? Can we make accountability relationships a
condition of leadership and/or membership? Truffins and
Morefields shared their positive experience with just such a
structure provided by the Renovaré Spiritual Formation
Group. Don suggested that this format could be introduced on
Sunday evenings. We agree that a concrete move toward more
intentional discipleship training is something that is worth
doing, regardless of whether others join us in that pursuit.
- We need to seriously consider the viability of staying in our
current building. We agreed that becoming a house church might
be a viable alternative, but one that has difficulties of its
own.
- If we are not currently operating under our constitution and
by-laws, do we need to rewrite them? Don suggested that we are
still operating within the spirit, if not the letter, of our
constitution. If the by-laws need to be amended, that is
something we can certainly consider, but it is not a pressing
concern.
- Considering the above, are we truly interested in continuing?
There was agreement that focusing on what we have, instead
of what we don’t have, and pursuing intentional
discipleship training formed the core of a positive direction
that we felt capable of pursuing.
Questions that must be answered before Annual Meeting:
- Are we going to have officers?
Yes. We can’t really
have a board per se, but rather a Steering Committee. We’ll
bring the following slate to the congregation at the annual
meeting: Ken will continue as treasurer, but will not meet with
the steering committee. The steering committee will consist of
Don (who doesn’t need to be elected), Todd, and Cindy.
Todd will continue as chairperson, as this position (and that of
treasurer) is required by our denomination.
- How do we present options to the congregation?
Present
spiritual formation outline at the meeting; go through SFG
introductory materials on Sunday nights for whomever is
interested.
Building
